Heatwaves are periods of extremely high temperature over a region. They are most commonly caused by a hot weather system, which circulates the Earth and can transport hot air from one country to another.
The hot air acts as a greenhouse gas, trapping heat from the sun and superheating the atmosphere so that there is no cooling when it blows back out again.
